Taunton, a county town
is a wonderful and unique town in the county of Somerset.
It is a mixture of old and new with family fun days, summer
westival, the Taunton flower show, farmers markets and the
Taunton Carnival. Taunton was originally a Saxon village in
Somerset. It is steeped in ancient history and in 1451 a famous
battle was fought in Taunton during the war of the Roses in
an attempt to overthrow Henry VII. Other famous events have
been Somerset County cricket club opening in 1875, Kings college
opened in 1880, Taunton was made the county town in 1935 instead
of of Weston Super Mare and the old market shopping centre
opened its doors in 1982. Taunton has built up to become a
busy, thriving town including a cricket ground, a Horse racing
course, a Theatre as well as well as heritage and archaeological
centres. It has a buy shopping centre, a wide selection of
bars,Cafes and restaurants, and other nearby attractions include
Brean Leisure Park, Cheddar Caves, Crealy, Eden project and
Fleet Air Arm Museum.
